In the backdrop of CBI and Enforcement Directorate's interrogation of three Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha MPs regarding Saradha chitfund scam, CPI(M) today said investigation by SIT formed by the state government was a "farce".
"The SIT was formed by the state government to fool the people. What kind of investigation they had done has come out in the open as they never bothered to call these people who are now being summoned by CBI. The investigation by SIT was a complete farce," CPI(M) leader Sujan Chakrabarty alleged at a press conference here.
"The people of Bengal want an answer why several TMC MPs are being summoned by CBI and ED in the Saradha Ponzi scheme," Chakrabarty, a CPI(M) state committee member, said.
On TMC's charge that chitfund companies were formed during the previous Left Front rule, he said, "So many things were formed during LF rule but during its one-year-long investigation, SIT did not call any CPI(M) leader in connection with chitfund scam."
CBI, among others, has arrested Rajat Majumdar, former DGP of State Armed Police, stated to be close to the TMC leadership while ED had questioned the party's Rajya Sabha MP Ahmed Hasan Imran.
Senior CPI(M) leader Shyamal Chakraborty, who was also present at the press meet, said that a protest rally against Saradha scam would be organised here on September 15 in which youth organisations like DYFI, SFI, CITU besides workers and chitfund victims would participate.
