A week after the midday meal tragedy struck Chhapra leaving 23 children dead, the Bihar government has constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the incident.
The nine-member SIT team, consisting of personnel from different police wings and districts, would be headed by Saran SP, Sujeet Kumar, an order issued by DGP Abhyanand said today.
The SIT would carry out investigation into the case lodged with Mashrakh police station under various sections of the IPC including 302 (murder) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) against the school principal Meena Devi and others.
The school principal has been absconding along with her grocer husband Arjun Rai since the incident on July 16.
When contacted, Saran SP Sujeet Kumar told PTI that raids were being conducted to arrest the absconding Principal.
"We are also looking into the things minutely to find missing links into the incident," he said.
The police has yesterday acquired arrest warrant against the principal from Chhapra CJM.
"If need arises the police will submit a prayer for attachment of property of the absconding principal," he added.
Besides the Saran SP, the SIT comprised of Arvind Gupta, Additional Superintendent of Police of Vaishali, and members from CID and police sub inspectors from different districts.
