A day after a youth was allegedly killed in police firing and eight policemen were injured in a stone-pelting incident following clash between two groups, situation in tribal-dominated Harsul town here is now peaceful.
"The situation is peaceful and well under control. No untoward incident has been reported after yesterday's clash," an official at Nashik's police rural control room said today.
Senior police officials, including Special Inspector General of Police (Nashik Range) J J Singh and District Superintendent of Police (Rural) Sanjay Mohite, are keeping a close watch on the situation, he said.
A panchanama of the incident was in process, he said.
Ramdas Budhad (27) was yesterday killed in alleged police firing and eight policemen were injured in stone-pelting following a clash between two groups in Harsul town of the district after body of a tribal youth was found in a well belonging to a particular community.
The body of Bhagirath Choudhary (26) was found in a well in the field of a man from a particular community three days back. A group of tribals staged a demonstration yesterday that turned violent and led to a clash between the two groups, police had earlier said.
Police first resorted to lathicharge and then fired rounds to disperse the mob. Budhad was allegedly killed in the firing, police said.
Eight policemen, including Additional SPs Prashant Mohite and Pravin Munde, were injured when the angry mob pelted them with stones. They were admitted to a private hospital.
Senior police officials had rushed to the spot and additional force, including the State Reserve Police Force personnel, was deployed in the tensed area.
