A 4.2 MW solar power plant set up with an outlay of Rs 35 crore, using single axis tracking technology, was inaugurated at village Lalpur here.
The plant, which was set up by Mumbai based company Aditya Medisales, was inaugurated by Bikram Singh Majithia, Minister for New & Renewable Energy, Punjab, said an official spokesman.
'Single Axis Tracking East West Tilt' technology follows the path of the sun during the day to generate 8 percent more electricity as compared to solar power plants having traditional fixed type structures.
On this occasion, Majithia invited the company to invest more in the field of renewable energy production in the state, saying the government here provides the best environment for investment in renewable energy sector with 25 years of PPA.
"It will make a huge difference towards protecting environment and generating clean energy," he said while adding that Punjab has fixed target of generating more than 4,200 MW solar power by the 2022.
He said different companies have already invested more than Rs 1,300 crore in solar power projects while an investment of around Rs 1,700 crore is in the pipeline.
Majithia said country's largest rooftop plant of 7.50 MW at Radha Soami Satsang at Beas (Amritsar) will be expanded to 31.5 MW which will make it the world's largest rooftop plant.
Majithia said the state government has also been awarded by the Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy for being one of the best performing states as far as capacity addition was concerned.
