SSI, woman cop exchange blows in public gaze; suspended

A Special Sub-Inspector and a woman constable here were suspended today for exchanging blows in full public gaze after a quarrel over sharing sweets.
District Superintendent of Police Narendra Nair ordered the suspension of SSI Chinnappan and Constable Rajarajeswari of the Taluk Police Station after the video clipping of their quarrel was sent through mobile phones to senior police officials, including himself.
Police said the incident occurred yesterday during the 'bhoomi pooja' for an additional building for the Taluk Police station.
After the pooja, the contractor had distributed sweets to police personnel of the station. Chinnappan had allegedly taken sweets from the box given to the constable leading to exchange of heated words.

At one point of time, the SSI had slapped the constable, who retaliated by slapping him, shocking those who had gathered at the station.
The incident was filmed on a mobile phone by someone and sent to all officials and other important persons, prompting the SP to suspend the two.
