Sinha, 54, was suffering from cancer and was discharged from Apollo Cancer Hospital in the city yesterday, hospital's spokesman Javed Akhtar said.
"Sailesh Sinha was a strong leader and had always been in the forefront to take Congress policies among the people," veteran Congress leader Gulfam Mujibi said.
Expressing grief at the demise of Sinha, Chief Minister Raghubar Das said the state had lost a committed social worker and educationist.
Das said Sinha was simple and sociable and prayed to god to give strength to his family members at this hour of mourning.
BJP's Jharkhand unit president and MP Ravindra Rai, spokesman Pradip Sinha, BJP leader Pramod Mishra and several other leaders from different political parties condoled the death of the Congress leader.
