Students promoted to new classes in government schools or in aided or sponsored school in Burdwan district have been asked to deposit their old books for use of incoming students of those classes.
Students promoted to new classes have been asked to deposit their old books as in Sarva Shikha Mission there is usually a delay in supply of books by the publishing houses for students, Burdwan District Magistrate Saumitra Mohan told PTI.
The delay is due to various reasons including those related to scale and logistical problems involved, he said.
This inconvenience the teachers and students in pursuit of curricular activities and the books are often delivered a few months after the start of academic session notwithstanding all efforts made in this regard, Mohan said.
We recently came out with an ingenious solution to this problem and issued instructions to all the schools through District Inspectors of School Education for asking the outgoing students promoted to senior classed to deposit back their books for use of incoming students of those classes, the District Magistrate said.
These books are deposited with the school authorities who in turn share these books with the students. This way the educational interests of students are not compromised. The students would get their new books as and when they arrive. But after they get their new books, they will have to give back the old books, Mohan informed PTI.
We have to build a good library of these old books which would be there all the time for the benefit and use of the students. The availability of these books would also help those students who lose their books during a session for different reasons, he said.
