A Subedar of the Indian Army, who reportedly took part in recent operation against Northeast insurgents in Myanmar, is likely to face action after he spoke to a leading southern daily giving up operational details of the raid.
Army sources said that Subedar Raghupathi U M was not authroised to speak to the media.
They added that he could face action by the Commanding Officer for not only speaking to the media but also divulging crucial details of the operation.
"This is not an issue that comes under the direct purview of the Army headquarters. Subedar comes under the company commander who in turns comes under the Commanding Officer, who is of a Colonel rank. Whatever action has to be taken will be taken at his level," they said.
The interview, which appeared in the newspaper yesterday, had left senior officers shocked.
In the interview, the Subedar not only spoke about the modus operandi used by the Army but also about a Myanmarese informer who had helped the commandos from 21 Para (Special Forces).
He also claimed that the Indian troops killed 50 insurgents even though the Army top brass have put the figure at only 20 killed and about 11 severely injured.
