Sugar prices climb on sturdy buying, thin supply

Sugar prices spurted by Rs 100 per quintal at the wholesale market in the national capital today following immense buying by stockist and bulk consumers amid halt in arrivals from mills.
Marketmen said heavy offtake by stockist and bulk consumers, triggered by tight supplies from mills resulted in a sharp strength in sugar prices.
Sugar prices have been almost climbed up around 15-20 percent since the announcement couple of measures by the government.
The government has increased the import duty to 100 per cent from 50 per cent and limiting the release of sugar by the mills.
Retail prices are also asked higher at Rs 38-42 per quintal.
Sugar ready M-30 and S-30 prices jumped up by Rs 100 to end the day at Rs 3,750-3,900 and Rs 3,740-3,890 per quintal.
Likewise, sugar mill delivery M-30 and S-30 prices hardened by Rs 60 each to Rs 3,490-3,630 and Rs 3,480-3,620 per quintal.
In millgate section, sugar Mawana and Dorala climbed up by Rs 90 each to Rs 3,560 and Rs 3,570, while Budhana and Thanabhavan spurted by Rs 85 each to Rs 3,560 and Rs 3,550 per quintal.
Sugar Sakoti flared up by Rs 70 to Rs 3,500, while Asmoli and Simbholi prices traded higher by Rs 60 each to Rs 3,580 and Rs 3,490 per quintal.
