Sugar prices fall on weak demand, mounting stocks

Sugar prices were down sharply by Rs 60 per quintal at the wholesale sugar market in the national capital today following mounting ready stocks on persistent supplies by mills amidst sluggish demand.
Marketmen besides weak demand from bulk consumers and retailers, rising stocks position following higher supply pressure from mills, weighed on the sweetner prices.
Sugar ready M-30 and S-30 prices tumbled from Rs 3,180-3,300 and Rs 3,170-3,290 to Rs 3,120-3,300 and Rs 3,110-3,290 per quintal.
Mill delivery M-30 and S-30 prices also slumped from Rs 3,030-3,155 and Rs 3,010-3,140 to end at Rs 2,980-3,145 and Rs 2,960-3,125 per quintal.
In millgate section, prices of government and co-operative mills also eased in line with overall trends.
Sugar Anupshar and Nazibabad lost Rs 60 each at Rs 2,980 and Rs 2,990 per quintal, while Baghpat, Ramala and Morna dipped by Rs 55 each to Rs 3,005, Rs 2,995 and Rs 3,005 per quintal.
Prices of Sakoti slipped by Rs 30 at Rs 3030, while Mawana and Modinagar by Rs 20 each at Rs 3,090 and Rs 3,030 per quintal.
