Sukinda Chromite Mine of Tata Steel awarded

Sukinda Chromite Mine (SCM) of Tata Steel, located in Jajpur district of Odisha, has won the prestigious CII-ITC Sustainability Award, 2015 for Excellence in Corporate Social Responsibility and also CII-Industrial Innovation Award, 2015.
The awards were presented in two separate functions held at New Delhi on December 15, a company release said today.
Instituted in 2006, CII-ITC Sustainability Award recognises and rewards excellence in businesses that are seeking ways to be more sustainable and inclusive in their activities.
The award is part of the continued efforts of Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Development (CESD) to create awareness on sustainability practices and to create capacities in business, the release said.

Sukinda Chromite Mine of Tata Steel received the award for significant contribution towards inclusive growth in its area of operation.
Around its operation in Sukinda in Jajpur district of Odisha, the company has been relentlessly working for overall development of people in the field of health, education, livelihood, women empowerment, sports and rural infrastructure, it said.

D B Sundara Ramam, Executive-in-Charge, Ferro Alloys and Mineral Division (FAMD), Tata Steel received the coveted award on behalf of the company, the release said.
Sukinda Chromite Mines, Tata Steel has also been conferred with the CII-Industrial Innovation Award, 2015 as one of the top 25 innovative organisations during CII Innovation and Entrepreneurship Summit, 2015 for innovation efforts in the areas of mines safety, energy conservation and product quality by creating a culture of innovation.

Mohit Rai, Manager, Maintenance, COB Plant, Sukinda Chromite Mine of Tata Steel received the award on behalf of the company from Prof Anil Gupta, Executive Vice Chair, National Innovation Foundation, it said.
CII-Industrial Innovation Award recognises and celebrates innovative Indian enterprises across industry segments.
The purpose is to encourage innovation and business growth and recognise innovation excellence without being judgemental about the kind and nature of innovation.
The selection process had four stages including an on-site assessment and presentation before jury by experts.
This year, 180 companies from different sectors across India had applied for this award, the release added.
