Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu will tomorrow flag off the Rajdhani Express connecting Goa to New Delhi from Madgaon.
The launch of the train, promised by Prabhu during an earlier visit, is fulfilment of a long pending demand from Goans to run a Rajdhani Express from the coastal state to the national capital.
"Taking into account the difficulties being faced by the people of Goa and also on the request of the Goa Government, Suresh Prabhu will be flagging off the inaugural run of the Bi-weekly Rajdhani Express between Madgaon & Hajrat Nizamuddin on November 15 from Madgaon Station at 15.00 hrs," Konkan Railways Chief Public Relations Officer said today.
"This will fulfil the long awaited dream of the people of Goa," he said.
"The regular Bi-weekly Rajdhani Express Train No.22413 will depart Madgaon at 10:05 hrs on every Sunday and Monday and reach H.Nizamuddin at 12:40 hrs on the next day," a release from Konkan Railway said.
"In return direction, Train No. 22414 will leave from H. Nizamuddin at 10:55 hrs on every Friday and Saturday and reach Madgaon at 12:55 hrs on the next day
This train will have 16 Coaches and will halt at Thivim, Kudal,Ratnagiri, Panvel, Surat, Vadodara & Kota Stations," it said.
Earlier in October, Goa Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar at a function had asked Prabhu for a special Goa Rajdhani for the convenience of those travelling to Delhi.
Responding to it, Prabhu had said, "I cannot give you a time-frame, but we will definitely make it".
At present, other Delhi bound trains originating from Goa include the Goa Sampark Kranti Express and the Goa Express.
