Rajendran, along with his colleague Srinivasan, was going to R S Puram to attend to his work, when Srinivasan stopped to answer nature's call near the stadium.
However, he accidentally fell into the pit which was full of water due to the rains for the last few days and raised an alarm, police said.
Seeing the plight, Rajendran rushed to pull him up, but unfortunately he also fell in to the pit.
Srinivasan, who managed to come up, cried for help and he, with the assistance of passersby pulled out and rushed Rajendran to the Government Hospital. However, Rajendran died on the way, police said.
