Maharashtra Education Minister Vinod Tawde has suggested granting of autonomy to Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University in order to improve quality of education.
"In order to improve the quality of higher education, the university should be given autonomy and government interference be minimised," Tawde said while addressing a gathering on the occasion of the 57th Foundation Day of the varsity here.
The government had already taken measures in this regard to improve the existing system, he said, adding that the recruitment of teachers and professors would be made through centralised method.
Tawde said the new University Act would be tabled in the winter session of the legislature.
In his address, Vice Chancellor B A Chopde said the varsity was consistently struggling for maintaining quality and is currently ranked 18 at national level.
On the occasion, six teachers from various faculties were bestowed upon lifetime awards.
