Chandrababu Naidu-led Telugu Desam Party (TDP) today signed an MoU with Oriental Insurance Company to extend a group personal accident policy for its active members, which is a first-of-its-kind initiative for any political party in the country.
Naidu's son Nara Lokesh, who is heading the workers' welfare wing, signed the pact with Oriental's Chief Regional Manager Rajasekhar at the NTR Bhavan here.
Under the scheme, each active member of TDP will get a personal insurance cover of Rs 2 lakh in case of a fatal accident and Rs 50,000 in case of accidental injuries.
Oriental's divisional manager M Sivanarayana said in a statement that the expected group size might cross 25 lakh active members and issuance of a single policy for such a large group is a first in the country.
TDP is launching its biennial membership enrollment drive across AP and Telangana from November 3.
For the first time, the party, eyeing a national status, will also seek to enroll members in neighbouring Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Maharashtra and also Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
The TDP, in fact, has an active unit running in the A&N Islands.
Lokesh, who is gradually seeking to take the reins of the party established by his grandfather, has taken the onus on him to enroll 25 lakh active members into TDP.
