The plea came up for hearing before a bench of Acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice C Hari Shankar, which asked the counsel for Delhi government to take instructions on the matter and inform it before January 17 next year.
The PIL filed by teachers' body, Adhyapak Shakti Manch, said the TGTs under the Directorate of Education (DoE) are entitled to a minimum pay of Rs 17,140 but the government has interpreted the schedule of pay-fixation Rules, 2008, to mean that those teachers who were appointed on or after January 1, 2006 were entitled to this pay.
The plea said if the petition is allowed, it will benefit a large number of teachers and avoid unnecessary litigation.
