The teachers had come here to hold a protest against delay in issuance of appointment letters among other demands but were stopped from proceeding towards the Vidhan Sabha.
According to President of the Junior teachers Niyukti Morcha Vivekanand Pandey, despite the completion of the selection process several months ago, appointment letters have not yet been issued as the government is not appropriately taking up the issue in the court where the matter is pending.
Pandey claimed that some protesters have received injuries in police action today.
"Some of the protesters received injuries when police resorted to lathicharge. One woman belonging to Kanpur received serious injuries and has been admitted to a hospital. Some have also been detained by the police," he added.
