Telangana Government today urged bankers to take steps to redress the inconvenience being faced by common people following demonetisation of currency notes.
In a meeting with bankers here, state Finance Minister E Rajender said bankers should take measures to see to it that people do not develop resentment about the Centre's move to curb the black money.
The bankers should take measures to ensure that money circulation grows as the penetration of banking system among common people, especially sections of society like daily wage earners, transporters, small shopkeepers, is still low, he said, as quoted by a government statement.
The cap put on withdrawal of money can be raised, he suggested.
Observing that Union Cabinet Secretary is regularly conducting video conference, Chief Secretary Rajeev Sharmaa said he has requested the Centre to let district cooperative banks accept demonetised notes as purchase of Kharif produce has begun in the state.
He requested that performance of post offices be reviewed and that Banking Correspondents and micro ATMs be strengthened further.
