After formation of new districts in Telangana, the Civil Supplies Department is gearing up to procure Kharif paddy, and has decided to start paddy purchase centres from tomorrow onward.
C V Anand, Commissioner for Civil Supplies, who held a video conference today with Joint Collectors of all districts, District Civil Supplies Officers and the Managers of Civil Supplies Corporation, directed that they should activate all purchase centres from October 17 onwards in a phased manner on need basis. By November 1, all the centres should function in a full-fledged manner.
This year there would be 2000 purchase centres, against 1671 last year.
Officers should ensure that that the support price of Rs 1470 for the ordinary quality and Rs 1510 for Grade A' quality paddy per quintal reaches the farmers in full, he said.
"We have kept ready a computer, tab, and printer in each and every procurement centre. All these centres should be within the reach of farmers. An officer of the Deputy Tahsildar rank would be appointed as the validation officer at each centre," he said.
According to an official release, the Commissioner stressed that Custom Milling Rice (CMR) should be returned within 30 days and the officers should keep vigil at field level and handle the situation strictly adhering to deadlines.
The Commissioner further ordered all the District Managers to conduct special drive to collect jute gunny bags from the millers immediately, as 5 crore bags have piled up in the last 5 years at the mills, which are worth Rs 203 crore.
To avoid inconvenience to poor families, the allocation of ration cards on district basis should be completed before October 20, Anand said. After distributing all the 86 lakh cards in 31 districts, he has ordered allocation of PDS from the newly formed districts, the release added.
