Ten persons were injured after the police cane charged and lobbed teargas shells at an angry mob here today.
Police intervened after people pelted municipal officials with stones after a person was killed in wall collapse during a municipal anti-encroachment drive, a police official said.
"Anand Totaram (25) was injured after debris of a wall pulled down during a municipal anti-encroachment drive at Chandraprabhash Shekhar Nagar locality fell on him. He was rushed to a hospital but couldn't be saved," Pandrinath police station's Assistant Sub Inspector said.
After Totaram's death, people from the locality threw stones at government vehicles, municipal corporation officials and policemen, he said.
Some youths even reached Pandrinath police station and created a ruckus, the ASI said, adding that a police force has been deployed at the trouble spot.
Most of the ten injured people have returned home after primary treatment, he added.
District Collector P Narahari said that financial help of Rs 25,000 has been extended to the family of Totaram who was killed during the municipal anti-encroachment drive.
He said that the circumstances under which Totaram died is being investigated.
