J&K police calls for alertness to thwart infiltration bids

Jammu and Kashmir police today directed its forces to keep a strong vigil on cross-border infiltration, drug mafia, bovine smuggling and other law and order issues.
A high level security meeting which was headed by Inspector General of Police Jammu Zone, Danish Rana stressed for establishing check points in border areas and asked the forces to remain alert to thwart infiltration bids, keeping in view the present security scenario, a police spokesman said.
Rana along with Ashkoor Wani, deputy inspector general of police (DIG) Jammu Kathua range met with senior police officers of the Samba district, which is situated near the Indo-Pak International Border (IB).
The aim of the review meeting was to check the police preparedness to deal with anti-national elements as well as sensitize the territorial officers of District Police Samba, the spokesman said.
He said that necessary instructions were imparted in maintaining police-public relations for effective handling of the law and order situation.
Rana emphasized on tracking all social evils with "iron hands" including drug mafia.
He said that the evil of drug abuse was increasing day-by-day in hostels, university campuses, while spreading its legs in the society.
The police was also directed to take stern action against bovine smugglers as well as individuals indulging in pilferage in the commodities being distributed under Public Distribution System.
