"Many cases were dismissed at the preliminary stage for want of fulfillment of mandatory requirements. In cases of serious violation of journalistic conduct by newspapers, the council censured them and also simultaneously advised them," a handout issued by the council said.
The council held its last meeting of its term here. It was the first ever full council meeting in Jammu and kashmir.
In the last sitting, the council adjudicated 17 complaints filed by the press and 27 cases against the press and adopted a report of the sub committee to examine the report of Centre's interlocutors on "Media and Media scenario of Jammu and Kashmir".
In the last three years, the council adopted a number of reports related to incidents of attacks and killing of journalists, misleading advertisements, issue of advertisements and accreditation of journalists in various states and monitoring committee on paid news.
"It also proposed amendments to DAVP advertisement policy, besides proposing amendments to the recent Maharashtra journalist, media persons and news-based electronic media house or news stations or newspaper establishment Act," the council said.
