A clutch of celebrity actors like Nitish Bhardwaj, Nadira Babbar, Rajit Kapur and Shernaz Patel are participating in a festival of performing arts that begins here on November 1.
Theatre, poetry and Sufi music are among the spread at the fourth version of 'Rang' the annual arts festival of the The Films and Theatre Society (FTS).
With a focus on stage theatre, the festival aims to "give aspiring theatre groups an opportunity to showcase their talent through a theatre competition Manchnaad."
Slotted for November 3-4, the competition invited entries from across the country out of which eight selected productions are set to vie for various award categories. Organisers said the ultimate winner would be awarded with a Tata Nano car.
The festival also has a workshop "Know the actor in you" organised by theatre vetran Nadira Babbar, who heads the Mumbai-based Ekjute theatre group. Babbar is also starring in the play "Sandhya Vhhay".
Meanwhile other actors have been cast in different productions by FTS. Nitish Bhardwaj as Krishna in "Chakrvyuh", Rajit Kapur in "One on One" and Shernaz Patel in "Class of 84".
A sufi night by the Nizami brothers and a 'Kavi Sammelan' featuring maestro poets like Rajiv Shukl and Rajesh Chetan are other attractions of the festival that is set to conclude on November 9.
"Formed in 2011, the FTS comprises a motley group of working professionals who meet over the weekend to rehearse. Every edition we try and add a different component to the festival. Last year we had a photography and short films and this year we have a sufi night," says Ankita Juneja, a member of FTS who is also acting in one of the plays.
The group's director is Atul Satya Koushik, who is a charted accountant and lawyer by profession.
