Three students of class VII were today arrested for allegedly killing their school teacher in Tungri Mohalla area in West Singhbhum district, police said.
The three students of St Xavier Boys School allegedly axed their teacher Jasline Topno to death on Tuesday because he had warned them to give up smoking and drinking or he else would complain to their parents, Circle Inspector (sadar) Sudhir Kumar told reporters.
Kumar said one of the accused student was staying in a rented room of the same building where Topno used to live.
The student with two classmates, who were regular visitors to his place, planned to kill the teacher and loot money to buy a motorcycle, Kumar said, adding the trio had approached one of their common friend's for a fire-arm.
The accused students planned to kill the teacher with an axe after their common friend refused to give the fire-arm.
As per the plan, the trio entered the teacher's room and fatally attacked him and also made an abortive attempt to kill another student living in the adjacent room apprehending that he might disclose their name.
Following the incident, two of the accused, who were living elsewhere, fled while the one, who was living in the same building, went inside his room, Kumar said.
However, an alarm was raised by the student, who escaped unharmed in the attack, and the neighbours assembled at the spot in large numbers.
Police has taken into custody the accused student, who was living in the same building, and interrogated him, which led police to nab other two accomplices as well.
Police arrested all the three following their confession about the killing of Topno.
Based on the leads provided by the trio, police has conducted a raid in the house of their common friend and recovered two country-made pistols, one air-gun and two live cartridges.
Police has arrested the boy's father, Bisambar Gope on charges of possessing illegal arms, Kumar added.
