Three persons, including a lawyer, were arrested here for allegedly trying to usurp a property through forged documents, police said today.
The three accused, advocate Umesh P Chari (33), estate agent L D Naik (40) and Alpesh Sawant (21) were arrested yesterday and booked under various IPC sections, including 420 (cheating) and 465 (forgery), police said, adding that they have been remanded in police custody till July 4.
The trio was arrested after a complaint was lodged by Pramod Damankar (50), a resident of Kalachowki here, senior police inspector S S Garud of Wadala Truck Terminus police station said.
"The complainant had rented his shop to one of the accused. But in due course of time, the tenant produced forged documents with the help of other accused, which showed that Damankar had sold his shop to him," Deputy Commissioner of Police Ashok Dudhe said.
Based on the complaint, police launched a probe into the case and found the papers to be bogus.
Apart from the three arrested accused, police is also investigating the role of a retired police officer and two others, who signed on the forged papers as witness, he said.
"Though have not arrested these people as yet, they are under scanner. We will fist verify whether they signed the document knowingly or not and then initiated further action," he said.
