Three killed as jeep falls into gorge in Pithoragarh

Three members of a marriage party were killed and two injured when the jeep in which they were travelling fell into a gorge near Thal in Dharchula area of Pithoragarh district.
The mishap took place late last night when the jeep was carrying five passengers, all members of a marriage party, police said.
It skidded off the road and fell into a 100 metre gorge while giving pass to another vehicle coming from the opposite direction, they said.
Three persons, including the 17-year-old younger brother of the groom, were killed on the spot.
Two others injured in the accident are being treated at a hospital nearby, it said.

Chief Minister Harish Rawat has expressed grief over the loss of lives in the accident and directed authorities concerned to pay compensation to the next of kin of the deceased and ensure proper treatment of the injured.
