Three persons arrested on charges of extortion in Manipur

Three activists of three different organisations were arrested from separate places in Imphal West and Imphal East district in the past two days in Manipur, a police release said today,
The release said, one NSCN(K) activist was arrested from Khagempali Panthak area in Imphal West district, who was identified as Sougrakpam Joychandra of Kakwa Laiphrakpam Leika and was staying at a rented house in the Khagempali area.
Joychandra was involved in extortion from people, businessmen and government officers in the name of NSCN(K), the release said.
In another search operation by a combined team of the 40 Assam Rifles and Imphal West police at Kongpal Khaidem Leikai area in Imphal East district, one former United National Liberation Front (UNLF) member was arested.

The arrested member was identified as Laikhuram Sachikumar (43) of Kongpal Khaiden Leikai, the release said.
In a search operation at Keirao Mayai Leikai area in Imphal East district under Irilbung police station, an activist of the PREPAK(PRO) activist was arrested.
The arrested activist was identified as Md Nawaz Ahamed (27) of Keirao Mayai Leikai, who was involved in many cases of extortion from private firms, contractors and stone crushers, the release added.
