Madhya Pradesh Police today arrested three persons for allegedly pelting stones at the marriage procession of a Dalit groom in Kukdeshwar area.
On May 5, the groom was riding on a horseback and when his marriage procession reached Semli Istmurar village under police supervision, it was attacked with stones by a group of upper caste men.
The miscreants were against the lower caste persons following the tradition of riding on horseback in a marriage, police said.
The accused hurled stones at the procession in which three persons, including the groom's father, brother and a female relative, were injured, they said adding that they have been admitted to a local hospital for medical treatment.
A case has been registered against four persons identified as- Surendra Singh, Gajju Singh, Manohar Singh and Ishwar Singh Rajput- under relevant sections of the IPC and SC/ST Act.
Three out of the four accused have been arrested and further investigations are on, police said.
The victims also alleged that nearly 40 people indulged in pelting stones at them but police registered cases against just four of them.
Meanwhile, Neemuch district Bahujan Samaj Party president, Radheshyam Commander alleged that the administration's claims of taking action against the accused persons in such matters was just a "hogwash".
Even today, entry of Dalits in the village temple is banned and the administration failed to do anything in this matter, he further alleged.
