) Tibetan Prime Minister-in-exile Lobsang Sangay today blamed China for self-immolations in Tibet and termed the situation there as "tragic and unfortunate".
"Self-immolations reflect desperation and determination borne out of repression and if Beijing stops repression, the self-immolations will automatically abate", he told reporters here.
Sangay said deadlock persisted in talk process between the Dalai Lama's envoys and Chinese authorities for genuine autonomy for the people in Tibet.
Reiterating his commitment of "middle path policy" of the Dalai Lama for seeking genuine autonomy for Tibet Autonomous Region, Sangay said that the efforts in this regard would continue unabated.
Sangay, who was here to participate in the Himalaya Festival-2013 organised by the state Tourism department in collaboration with the Central Tibetan Administration said that 122 Tibetans had set themselves ablaze since 2009 to express solidarity with the Dalai Lama.
