Tihar inmate dies

A 32-year-old man, who was under treatment at Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital here after he allegedly tried to commit suicide in a bathroom in Tihar jail last week, died here today, police said.
However, Salman's family and friends alleged he died due to police torture and they staged a protest outside Ambedkar Nagar police station here this evening.
As per police, Mohd Salman, who was arrested in a murder case from Ambedkar Nagar police station in the first week of January, had tried to commit suicide by hanging from the bathroom's grill on the intervening night of 8 and 9 January and had been admitted in DDU Hospital since then and was on ventilator.

"He was declared dead by doctors here this morning. His body has been handed over to his family," said a police official.
According to Tihar authorities, a judicial inquiry has been ordered into the case.
