TMC accuses Centre of aborting JNNURM projects in West Bengal

The Trinamool Congress government in West Bengal today accused the Centre of stopping disbursal of funds and aborting several projects of JNNURM scheme with a minister saying an anti-Centre movement will be launched if it continued.
"To have their (Centre) way and to put people into inconvenience, they are stopping projects one after another under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) in the state," State Urban Development Minister Firhad Hakim said in the Assembly.
"They have said instalments worth Rs 800 crore for JNNRUM projects under the Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority will not be given," the minister said adding similar non-cooperation was there with regard to projects in non-KMDA areas.

"Even sanction to a project in Darjeeling has been withheld," the minister said.
Hakim claimed the Kolkata Municipal Corporation had initiated five projects worth Rs 698 crore under the JNNURM scheme, which have been stopped by the Centre.
"These projects are in the interest of the people. A welfare state works in the interest of the people. If such attitude continues, we will build up movement against the Centre," he said, while participating in a debate under rule 185 of the Assembly over alleged curtailment of MGNREG schemes by the central government.
The motion was moved jointly by the ruling Trinamool Congress, the Opposition Left parties and the Congress.
