TMC aims to snatch Taldangra seat held by CPI-M for 39 years

Aiming to wrest Taldangra seat in Bankura district from CPI-M in the upcoming election, Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee today claimed the opposition party had not done anything for the people there.
CPI-M first won the seat in 1977 and held on to it despite TMC's landslide win in 2011 Assembly polls.
"CPI-M has won from this seat for the last 39 years, but did not do anything for the people of the constituency," Banerjee said at a poll rally here.
Canvassing support for the TMC candidate from the seat, she said, "We will work to bring drinking water to this water-scarce area."

Public Health Engineering (PHE) department had taken up an ambitious water supply project worth Rs 1,100 crore that would benefit around 34 lakh people when completed in two phases, the Chief Minister said.

up in neighbouring Purulia district, she said.
Reiterating her claim that CPI-M had unleashed a reign of
terror against opposition during its 34-year-long rule in the state, Banerjee alleged even now they are continuing with such practice.

Meanwhile, in another rally in Kharagpur, Mamata Banerjee rooted for Trinamool Congress candidate Ramprasad Tiwari and said the pending development works in the constituency will be a priority work for the government if her party comes to power.

"I have known Gyan Singh Sohan Pal for long and have great respect for him. Still, I think much needs to be done for Kharagpur's development and Trinamool Congress will do that if it gets the opportunity," Banerjee said.
Gyan Singh, fondly called 'Chacha' by his admirers, is the Congress-Left Front alliance candidate from IIT and Railway town Kharagpur, where from he has won for consecutive times. BJP state president Dilip Ghosh is also contesting from the seat.
"CPI(M) has been the arch rivals of Congress for over three decades and many Congress workers were murdered during the Left Front regime. Yet, their lust for power is such that they have now formed a poll alliance. People will defeat them and give them a befitting reply," the TMC supremo said.
