TMC MP Kalyan Bandopadhyay has stoked a controversy by making derogatory remarks against BJP national secretary Siddharth Nath Singh, accusing him of telling lies and pursuing religion-based politics.
In the latest round of verbal war between TMC and BJP, Bandopadhyay addressing a rally at Chanditola in Hooghly district yesterday made the remarks against Singh and also dragged Singh's grandfather, India's former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri.
"He (Siddharth) says that he is the grandson of Lal Bahadur Shastri. If Shastri ji would have been alive today, he would have decided not to marry after looking at his grandson," the TMC MP said.
Criticizing the remark, the state BJP leadership today said Bandopadhyay's comment reflected the political culture of Trinamool Congress.
"The derogatory comment that Bandopadhyay has made reflects the ideology and the political culture of TMC. Earlier too, Bandopadhyay had made such type of comments. It is a shame. But he gets inspiration from the Bengal chief minister who too is known for making derogatory remarks," BJP state spokesperson Ritesh Tiwari said.
Bandopadhyay in his speech also attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying he was the most inefficient PM India had ever seen.
"In 2019, we will show him the door. He is the most inefficient prime minister India has ever seen," he said.
Tiwari in his repartee said, "Bandopadhyay should be more worried about the 2016 state Assembly polls when the people of Bengal will throw away the TMC regime. After 2016, he can think of 2019".
CPI(M) leader Shyamal Chakraborty also condemned the comment by Bandopadhyay and said such remarks were only expected from TMC leaders.
