TN Guv, CM extend Ramzan greetings

Tamil Nadu Governor K Rosaiah, Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa and other leaders in the state today extended their Ramzan greetings.
"Prophet Muhammad preached equality, self-control, good conduct, charity, and love. Let us on the festival of 'Breaking the fast' pledge to live up to his ideals and promote peace, unity and harmony," Rosaiah said in a Raj Bhavan statement.
Jayalalithaa, while extending her greetings, recalled the various welfare measures being implemented by her government for the welfare of Muslims.
This included provision of 4500 tonnes of rice to over 3000 mosques to prepare gruel, besides hiking monthly pension of ulemas and revising the annual subsidy to Tamil Nadu Waqf Board to Rs one crore, she said in a statement.
She urged one and all to vow to follow the preachings of Muhammad, such as love and compassion to ensure all-round peace.
DMK President M Karunanidhi recalled that he had moved closely with Muslim leaders including Quaid-e-Milleth and said whenever he was in power, he had implemented a slew of welfare schemes for the community including announcing holiday for Milad-u-Nabi for the first time in 1969.
DMDK founder Vijayakant, PMK founder S Ramadoss and MDMK leader Vaiko also extended their Ramzan greetings.
