TN proposes to develop UAV

Tamil Nadu government today proposed developing an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) which will be used by state government departments during natural disasters as well as for security measures.
Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa made an announcement in this regard in the Assembly today, saying Anna University will be tasked with developing the UAV.
She said the UAV would be "very useful" during natural disasters to collect data in the affected areas, allowing experts to expeditiously take up rescue works.
"Similarly, it will be useful to monitor security threats and dangers. Therefore, Anna University will design and a develop a UAV to be used by various departments of the Tamil Nadu government," she said.
She proposed allocating a sum of Rs 20 crore to Anna University for this purpose.
Jayalalithaa also made a slew of announcements in the Higher Education sector. Among these, the government will fill 1,144 teaching vacancies in government engineering and arts and sciences colleges and polytechnics.
She proposed Rs 60 crore towards upgrading internal infrastructure of five universities in different parts of the state and Rs 62 crore towards similar efforts in Government Arts and Science colleges and Constituent colleges.
The Chief Minister also announced that the government will set up five new polytechnics at an investment of Rs 150 crore.
