Blaming both Centre and Assam government for not being proactive against illegal migration from across the border, Vishwa Hindu Parishad leader Praveen Togadia today said 1951 should be taken as the cut-off for expelling immigrants.
"Due to the lackadaisical attitude of the government, over three crore illegal migrants from Bangladesh have entered India over the years, of whom one crore are in Assam alone. This has led to change in demography and locals are feeling alienated.
"The government should take action to expel illegal immigrants who entered the country after 1951," he told Vishwa Hindu Mahasabha Sammilan at Pulibagan in Golaghat district and called upon the people of Assam to fight unitedly against illegal migration.
He also claimed that 'Bangladeshi elements' were behind the violence in Bodoland Territorial Area Districts (BTAD) of Assam that claimed about 100 lives last year.
The VHP working president blamed the Centre for failing to check price rise and accused it of 'mismanaging' the country's economy.
"The Centre's anti-poor policies have led to spiralling inflation. The UPA government is responsible for all-round price rise," Togadia said.
