Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (TPDDL) today commissioned its maiden 66 kV gas insulated switchgear (GIS) sub-station at Prashant Vihar, Rohini.
The sub-station commissioned in a record time of nine months, is expected to benefit 50,000 consumers including institutional, domestic and commercial ones, the TPDDL said in a statement.
The sub-station has been constructed on an area measuring 540 square meters, which is only 10 percent of plot size required for setting up a conventional facility of same capacity, it claimed.
"The company has continuously been adopting latest distribution technology and innovation for making its network robust and offering quality and reliable power to customers. Commissioning of the GIS sub-station is an effort in the same direction," TPDDL CEO and MD Praveer Sinha, who inaugurated the sub-station jointly with ABB India Limited MD Bazmi Hussain, said.
Elaborating on technical aspects of the sub-station, the company said it has two power transformers of 25 MVA each which will cater to the demand of surrounding areas and will receive power from LILO (Loop-in-Loop-out) of existing 66 kV Line from Pitampura-I to RG-3.
The sub-station, un-manned one to be operated from TPDDL's control room, has state-of-the-art technical equipment and comprehensive supervisory control and data acquisition system and GIS switching panel, it added.
"This is an indoor sub-station and all life parts are enclosed ensuring safety. Besides, it has various important safety features including insulated switch gears, nitrogen injected fire protection system as well as two auto-switched capacitor bank that ensures quality of power supply," the company said in the statement.
