Wreaths were placed at the Kargil War memorial on the Beach Road here and the a two-minute silence observed in memory of the soldiers who laid down their lives in the 1999 war.
Local Administration Minister N.G.Panneerselvam, Electricity Minister T.Thiagarajan, AIADMK MLA Om Sakthi Segar, Secretary to the government Candavelou and high ranking police officials were among those paid their tributes.
A team of functionaries of Puducherry unit of the BJP also paid tributes at the memorial, which was inaugurated by then Union Home Minister L K Advani.
