Two 17-year-old school students drowned and another one reported missing when they tried to take a selfie near a river here on Friday afternoon, police said.

While two bodies have been recovered, search is on for the missing student in the Meenachil river.

Police said one of them tried to take a selfie using a mobile phone but fell into the river. Seeing this, the other two tried to rescue him but they also fell in, police said.

The students, all aged 17, went to the river after visiting the venue of the district school youth festival here.
