Ruling Congress in Uttarakhand today condemned the CBI raids at the premises of Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh on the day of his daughter's marriage, saying they were carried out at the behest of the Centre.
"It is obvious that CBI chose an auspicious day like this for the raids at the behest of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
"Conducting CBI raids on the premises of a Chief Minister on a day when he is solemnising his daughter's marriage goes against political courtesy," Pradesh Congress Committee President Kishore Upadhyay said.
Terming the move as "unfortunate and highly condemnable," he said the Congress will hit the streets in protest if the Centre does not stop using CBI as a tool to settle scores with its political opponents.
"Ever since Narendra Modi had taken over the reins of power at the Centre, leaders belonging to rival parties were being harassed by the CBI," Upadhyay said.
He also said that the timing of today's CBI raids on the premises of HP CM was clearly inspired by political ill will.
CBI today carried out searches at 11 places in connection with a disproportionate assets case against Singh within minutes of the 81-year-old leader leaving his official residence to solemnise the marriage of his second daughter in a temple.
