The University Grants Commission (UGC) has brought its fellowship schemes under the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) to ensure effective administration and smooth disbursement of scholarships to students.
The UGC implements various fellowship schemes on behalf of the HRD Ministry, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Ministry of Minority Affairs and Ministry of Tribal Affairs.
"Fellowships under three schemes -- PG Scholarship for ME/MTech/MPharma to GATE/GPAT qualified candidates, BSR Faculty Fellowship and Free Education for Sports Medal Winners have been migrated to DBT mode through UGC web portal," an official notification said.
"Earlier those were disbursed through respective colleges and universities," it said.
Under the DBT disbursement process, fellowship awardees are required to submit continuation and HRA certificates, on quarterly basis in designated bank branches. Payments will be made into the Student Beneficiary Accounts through Public Financial Management System (PFMS).
Yesterday, Minister of State for HRD, Mahendra Nath Pandey, had told the Rajya Sabha that "all fellowship schemes have been moved under DBT mode by the UGC".
He had also informed that the UGC has developed a dedicated web portal for migration of legacy cases on DBT platform besides a fellowship tracking portal.
