The United Nations Security Council is condemning the attacks in Ivory Coast over the weekend that left 18 people dead, including 15 civilians.
The council in a statement today called for the perpetrators and organizers of the attack to be brought to justice.
Al-Qaida in the Islamic Maghreb, known as AQIM, has claimed responsibility.
Yesterday's attack left the resort town of Grand-Bassam and all of Ivory Coast reeling from its first Islamic extremist attack.
Grand-Bassam is a UNESCO World Heritage site and a popular destination for Ivorians and foreigners.
President Alassane Ouattara's government began work today to tighten security and prevent similar violence.
