Unemployed youths cheated of Rs 23 lakh, two booked

As many as 23 unemployed youths were allegedly duped to the tune of Rs 23 lakh by two persons from Dombivali here on the pretext of providing them jobs, police said today.
The accused -- Chandrakant Shinde and Bhikaji Jangam had collected money from these youths, all residents of Bhayander in Thane district, between November 2014 and May 2015.
Sub-inspector K S Patil of Bhayander police station said the case was registered against Shinde and Jangam yesterday but no arrests have been made so far in this connection.
"The accused had told the victims that they have influence in the education department of Mira-Bhayander Municipal Corporation as well as in the Mumbai Metro and promised to provide clerical jobs to them in these establishments," he said.
They also issued fake appointment letters, one of the victims said in the complaint.
The accused duo has been booked under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections -- 420 (cheating), 465 (forgery), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating), 471 (using as genuine a forged a document or electronic record) and 419 (cheating by personation), Patil said.
Investigation in the matter is underway, he added.
