The 25-year-old former Disney star said the role liberated her out of her control zone, reported New York Daily News.
"I loved looking into the mirror and seeing myself with short hair and bad skin and tattoos. The uglier I could make myself, the more giggly I would get on the inside," Hudgens said.
"It was the first time I really stepped out of my control zone, physically and material-wise. I'm a little afraid of myself when I watch it," she added.
