Vasan for implementation of Pandiyaru-Punnampuzha scheme

Tamil Nadu can get minimum 18 tmc ft of water for irrigation under the Pandiyaru-Punnampuzha scheme, pending since 1967, if the state government holds a meeting with Kerala over the issue, Tamil Maanila Congress President G K Vasan said here today.
"The Tamil Nadu government should conduct a meeting with Kerala over the Pandiyaru-Punnampuzha water scheme, which is pending since 1967. If this is done, we may get minimum water supply of 18 TMC feet, which can be used for irrigation," he told reporters here.
In addition, the state could implement the Avinashi Athikadavu scheme, using the surplus water, benefitting dry areas in Coimbatore, Tirupur and Erode district, he said.

Vasan said he had toured 10 Revenue districts after revival of TMC and claimed 27 lakh members had enrolled themselves with the party. "It is our aim to enroll minimum 50 lakh members in Tamil Nadu," he said.
On alliance with other parties, he said, it was too early to say anything about it and he would certainly do so once the assembly elections are declared.
Vasan demanded that the state government not grant license to Coca Cola for its proposed unit at SIPCOT in Perundurai, as it would affect people of the area.
On other issues, he urged the Union Government not to grant permission for installation of the Nathuram Godse statue and pleaded for immediate implementation of the Sethusamudram project.
