2,068 cadets, including 696 girl cadets, drawn from the 17 directorates covering all the states and union territories are participating in the camp.
Every year, selected NCC cadets congregate in the capital for a month in the run up to Republic Day.
Addressing the camp, he said, "Through programmes like NCC, the government is investing in today's youth and in the country's future. The youth of a nation determine how it shapes up a few years into the future.
During the course of this month the camp will be visited by the Defence Minister and the chiefs of the three services of the Indian Armed Forces. The Prime Minister's Rally will be held on January 28 where the PM's Banner is awarded to the winning Directorate.
Like in the past there will be two marching contingents and two band contingents taking part during the Republic Day parade this year.
According to the Director General of the NCC, Lt Gen Vinod Vashisht, the NCC will also be conducting a countrywide campaign to raise awareness about cashless transactions on the occasion of National Youth Day on January 12.
