The 53-year-old star and Ayers said the decision to end their relationship of four years came after much thought and counselling, reported Us Weekly.
"After much prayer, thought, counselling, and consideration, we have decided to end our four year relationship," both said in a statement.
The pair said they wish a "great future" for each other.
"We have come to realise that one can indeed love someone in their heart, but that the time may come for their lives to take separate paths. Though the remaining episodes of Season 10 of 'The Real Housewives of Orange County' will show us as a couple, the filming took place in January 2015 through May 2015.
This is not the first time Gunvalson and Ayers have split. Back in 2013 they announced that they had parted ways after two years of dating. By fall 2014 they had reconciled when the pair learned that Ayers had stage 3 cancer.
