Scores of visually-impaired people held a demonstration in the city today demanding a reconsideration of the proposed bill on the rights of persons with disabilities before it is introduced in Parliament.
A delegation lead by SK Rungta, General Secretary of the National Federation of the Blind, also held talks with the Law Minister Kapil Sibal who assured that they would examine the issue and refer the proposed bill to the Attorney General.
"But since there is no definite assurance, we will continue with our dharna till our demands are met," said Rungta at the dharna site outside Shastri Bhavan here.
"Besides, we will also start a hunger strike from February 2 which will be converted into a fast-unto-death from February 4 in case our demands are not met," Rungta added.
NFB condemned the insensitive and biased approach of the government and also slammed it for disobeying the Supreme Court judgement over the implementation of reservations for persons with disabilities.
