The Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) today made a bid to make an entry into the Guinness Book of World Records by measuring blood pressure readings of more than 8,000 people in eight hours, official sources said today.
"An eight-hour camp was organised at the Akota Stadium as part of the World Health Day celebrations today during which the blood pressure readings of 8,368 people were taken," Vadodara Municipal Commissioner Ashwini Kumar told PTI here.
The world record for the most number of blood pressure readings taken in eight hours is currently hold by Philippines.
"The largest number of people whose blood pressure readings were recorded in eight hours was 8026. It was achieved by Iglesia Ni Cristo at Parola Tondo Metro Manila, in Manila, Philippines, on July 7, 2012. We will now approach the Guiness Book of World Records for mentioning our record with supporting evidence," he said.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) has chosen hypertension or high blood pressure as the theme for this year's World Health Day.
Vijay Shah, a medical practitioner and chairman of the VMC standing committee said that 250 medical practioners from private and government-run hospitals were engaged in the biggest ever medical exercise which began in Akota stadium at 10 am and ended at 6 pm.
