WAO urges governments to check allergy-related problems

The WAO, which is presently organising its International Scientific Conference here, has published a 'white book' which calls upon governments to take steps to reduce the spread of allergic diseases.

WAO, established in 1951, holds dialogue with governments on checking the spread of allergies by organising conferences, conducting trainings and circulating the 'white book' that contains comprehensive information on allergic diseases, WAO's world president Ruby Pawankar told PTI.

The organisation reaches out to its 89 member-countries. Its 'white book' has been sent to a number of countries across the world, Pawankar said.

WAO is also working with the World Health Organisation to check the spread of allergic diseases, she said.

Replying to a query, she said that 400 million people suffer from allergic rhinitis, while 300 million suffer from asthma, about 200 million people suffer from food allergies and about a 100 million people suffer from drug allergies.
